Poker Rules: Texas Hold’em

How to play Texas Hold’em

First of all, let’s find out the basics of the game? In Texas Hold’em you have to make the best five-card poker hand as per the traditional poker hand rankings. We have a complete list of Poker Hand Rankings if you want to learn about them.

How many players can play: 2-10

Hole Cards: The two cards dealt face down at the start of the game

Community Cards: Five more cards dealt face up in the middle of the table.

Flop: The first three community cards

Turn: The card dealt after the flop or the fourth community card

River: The fifth and final community card

Button: The dealer

Blinds: The forced bets that begin the wagering

Small blind: The immediate left player of the button posts the small blind

Big Blind: The immediate left player of the small blind posts the big blind

Pre Flop: The first round of betting that takes place right after the hole cards are dealt

Call: Match the amount of big blind

Raise: Increase the bet

Fold: Throw the hand away

The Showdown: After the final betting round, the players expose their holdings to determine a winner

Texas Hold’em Rules:

  • Each player is dealt two hole cards.
  • The betting begins with the player to the left of the big blind.
  • Each player has three options for betting – call, raise, or fold
  • The dealer puts three community cards or flop cards after the first round of betting finishes.
  • Another round of betting starts with the player to the left of the dealer
  • The dealer then deals the Turn which is followed by another round of betting.
  • Finally, the River is dealt which is followed by the final round of betting
  • After the final round of betting the remaining player expose their holdings i.e. showdown. The player with the best 5-card poker hand wins (comprising of any combination of their 2 hole cards and 5 community cards)
  • In no-limit Hold’em a player can always bet all of his or her chips at any point

Best Hand: A royal flush is the best possible hand
